First and foremost, mastering Tenshin-ryu requires an immense amount of time and dedication.
Tenshin-ryu was developed to help establish and protect the Tokugawa shogunate, and it is a unique style that was practiced by samurai over 400 years ago, who undertook missions akin to those of modern-day spies or special forces—often at the risk of their lives.
This alone should give you a sense of how difficult it is to truly master. On top of that, we now face additional challenges unique to the modern era.
For those living outside Japan, cultural and linguistic barriers are significant.
However, even for Japanese people, the language and culture have changed drastically since those times. Tenshin-ryu is rooted in lifestyles and customs that have long since vanished.
In that sense, regardless of your country of origin or the language you speak, everyone begins with some disadvantage when studying this art.
What’s important to remember is this: today, we do not train to wield the Japanese sword in actual combat.
Instead, we choose Tenshin-ryu as a lifelong pursuit—a profound and rewarding hobby that allows us to grow, challenge ourselves, and enrich our lives over time.
While our system to support this path is still a work in progress, we are building one suited to modern life. And together, we can enjoy your journey of progress and discovery.

In addition, you can deepen your understanding of Tenshinryu and Japanese culture through blog articles, where you’ll find valuable written content.
